Sheboygan Court System & Jurisdictions

In Wisconsin, there are no separate county or magistrate courts as in some other states. Instead, the primary trial court is the Circuit Court. The Sheboygan County Circuit Court is a court of general jurisdiction that handles virtually all categories of cases.

  • Criminal cases — felonies and misdemeanors, including DUI/OWI.
  • Civil cases — claims of any amount, as well as small claims cases up to $10,000.
  • Family law — divorce, custody, alimony, name changes.
  • Probate cases — estate administration, adult guardianship, mental health cases.
  • Traffic violations and ordinances — fines, municipal rule violations.
  • Juvenile cases — offenses and child protection (these records are generally closed to the public).

There is a separate Sheboygan Area Municipal Court, which deals exclusively with city ordinance violations — from parking to noise. Municipal court decisions can be appealed to the Circuit Court.

Federal cases involving the county are handled by the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Wisconsin.

Sheboygan Court Calendar & Upcoming Hearings

The Circuit Court schedule is published through the CCAP (Consolidated Court Automation Programs) system. To view the calendar for today, tomorrow, or the current week:

  1. Go to the Wisconsin Court System case search page.
  2. Select Sheboygan County from the dropdown list.
  3. Use the date filter to see scheduled hearings.

The system allows searches by party name or case number. Information is updated daily.

For the municipal court, the hearing schedule can be clarified by calling the office directly or using the forms and reference information on the city's website. Public terminals in the courthouse also display the current schedule.

How to Get a Copy of a Sheboygan Court Document

The Clerk of Courts office maintains all Circuit Court case materials and issues document copies. There are two types of copies:

  • Uncertified copy — suitable for personal review.
  • Certified copy — has the clerk's seal and signature; required for submission to other institutions, licensing, etc.

Ways to Obtain

  1. Online. Through the CCAP system, you can view case data and some documents. However, certified copies are not issued online — they must be ordered from the clerk.
  2. In person. Visit the Clerk of Courts at the courthouse:
